Practical Insight for Students on the Task to Write the Best College Essay

By Suzi Cohen*

As essay is an art of presenting something or viewpoint and it is a collection of related paragraphs that create one main thought and usually longer than the paragraph, so you suppose to write a subject in more detail. It calls for more thought and more analysis.

The required essay is the most innovative among composing assignments performed by aspiring college students. The two formal ways of writing an essay are: a) discursive and b) argumentative.

When it comes to complete an essay task it's become very tough to attempt it. I have shared below the insight of how to write a persuasive essay. With the help of these easy points you will be able to get a best grip over writing a college essay.

A good essay should encompass of three primary parts: an introduction, a body and a conclusion respectively.

Let's start with Introduction:

This section pulls in the reader’s attention and tells about the main theme of subject topic. Points below will help you to understand the mode of composition:

    • Short background and/or current situation, including differing opinions on the topic
    • Definition of the keyword (if necessary; as it happens in most of the cases)
    • Outline / main point of the essay
    • Writer’s position
    • Make available transition into body paragraphs
Further, in a small essay the introduction may comprise of just a sentence. In other essays you may permit a brief passage. However, a decent starting is of incredible significance, for we regularly need to catch and enable the reader’s attention.

The body is the soul of an essay. It satisfies the points of the intro and comprises of the same number of paras/sections as may be required to create the theme. Each paragraph must contain complete information. Each time you take up another thought, start another passage. And don't begin another section without a decent purpose behind doing so. The accurate length of an essay depends on the task, generally, you may think about the body as possessing around three fourths of your space and comprising of three or four sections and each of which may include:

    • A topic sentence clearly stating the main argument/point
    • The key arguments or key points, showing different viewpoints with supporting points and its examples or explanation
    • Reference to sources, statistics and information to support the writer’s view point

The conclusion, or the closure of your paper, ought to clearly demonstrate to the reader that you have finished your composition, not deserted it. You may demonstrate to it by reviewing the reason as communicated in the intro, by abridging quickly all the primary focuses, or referring back to the title, or making summed up remarks, or restating the theory in distinctive words.

The conclusion may include:

    • It must be a summary of the essay's key points stated properly
    • The statement illustrative of the writer's general conclusion and why it is significant, referring back to the essay question
    • Give your final words (where essential) to broader suggestions and future action

4 Tactics to Save with Your Higher Education

A college degree is important for advancing one's earnings potential, says a recent The Hamilton Project's study. Despite the growing anxiety many Americans students confront while they get a rising student-loan bill, using debt to partially finance one's education makes it a better investment.

Even when some universities are already changing gears about student loans, use of the following smart ways to save with your higher education, can help you leave college with less debt:

Use a Cosigner. More than often students have low or poor credit scores, which lets private lenders charge you a higher interest rate. Using a cosigner can get you interest rates lower than those charged by the government loans.

Work for the Government. Programs like Teach for America require that graduates work for a specified period of time --usually one year or longer-- for the government with the agreement that the government will then forgive their loans.

Rely on Grants and Scholarships. When you fill out the FAFSA, the government will let you know how much in grants you will receive based on the income of your parents. The children of parents who are members of community and fraternal organizations qualify for some scholarships, and scholarships are also available for minority students and students studying specific topics. Remember you can apply for scholarships through your college or through independent organizations.

Opt for Tuition Reimbursement. Many companies now offer some kind of tuition reimbursement for students who are working either full-time or part-time. This can range from your employer paying for textbooks and a small percentage of your classes to your employer paying all costs you incur up to a certain point.

Now that money is scarce and costs of going to college have even politicians concerned, it is good to have at least some advice on ways to save money while you enroll in higher education.

Long-Term Employment In Scientific Logistics

A Sailor directs a C-2A Greyhound.
Coronado, Calif. Photo by The U.S.Navy
Before the amazing field of DNA evidence came along, back in the times of simplistic pharmaceutical research, long before cryogenics was anything but science fiction, there was little need for truly specialized biological storage, handling, and transportation. That has all changed. With these cutting-edge systems demanding skilled care for the materials used in these diverse fields, there is considerable growth and opportunity for workers in a field best described as scientific logistics.

Developing the skills needed to make employable people in this field is a critical modern trend in education, as is understanding the appeal and value of this vocation.

A Diversity of Skills

New workers today don't like to be tied down to a monotonous task. They have a variety of interests, often in very differing fields. Biological transport and storage involves a huge array of different tasks and materials.

Workers in this field may be managing registration and logs to verify the custody and location of stored items. They could be overseeing electronics and refrigeration to keep equipment in good working order. Their duties may involve the process of loading, securing, transporting, and unloading fragile, valuable cargo. They could even be taking care of scientific animals.

Whatever their assigned tasks may be, they are gaining experience in a number of different areas that not only provides daily surprises and staves off boredom, but also provides workers with a broad base of skills that can carry them into other careers.

The Ability To Make A Difference

In addition to monotony, a lack of fulfillment in a job is a prime enemy of today's worker. Simply creating an impressive stack of completed paperwork or assemblies isn't enough for many workers. They want something they can point to with pride for their role in making it happen.

Imagine the satisfaction of seeing a years-old case solved because the evidence in your care was properly preserved, identified, and secured. That type of outcome is common in scientific logistics. As we've moved into modern medical research including DNA work and cryogenics, the technology has moved past courier transport and simple parcel shipping into a realm requiring highly specialized care. And once items reach their destinations, there's an entire field of storage. So workers who play roles in that process are a vital cog in the machinery of solving crimes, curing diseases, and making safer products.

Career Durability

Wise job-seekers today focus their attention on the options that hold the strongest prospects for long-term employment. Firms involved in biological storage fit that bill perfectly, because many of the items they keep on hand must stay in storage for many years--items such as the DNA evidence mentioned above. All through that time, there must be proper care and documentation of the items, and new materials come in all the time. That makes scientific logistics is a field with above-average staying power.

In addition, many of the customers of biological storage facilities will never be able to justify proper equipment of their own. Hundreds of smaller labs, universities, police agencies, and more cannot afford to store or transport these items for years and years, making it a secure commitment for the firm that provides that service for them.

The modern world has a steady stream of growth industries emerging all the time. Preparing workers to operate effectively in those careers is one of the most important adjustments necessary in education.

Why e-Learning Has Transformed Education

Education has become easier in regards to availability and affordability with the touch of the Internet. E-Learning not only makes a classroom education fun but also distant learning much more interactive.

Podcasting about gaming by Leon Cych on Flickr
The importance of education in today’s day and age has been multiplied to what it was a few years ago. With lesser high school dropouts and more students enrolling into universities and colleges, people have finally understood the worth of the degree; and for this, we need to thank the invention of technology.

You would now ask how? How has technology influenced youngsters to take education more seriously? Well, the answer is simple: technology has made education much more exciting that it was before. From boring textbooks to the interesting and innovative world of 'e', technology has made education exponentially better.

This form of teaching has also made distant learning much better. For students who are working professionals, or for some reason can’t go to schools or universities, e-learning has given them the opportunity to earn the education they desire in a much more interactive manner.

E-Learning comprises of education that is imparted electronically and technologically to the students. Bernard Luskin, a pioneer of e-learning says "the 'e' should be interpreted to mean exciting, energetic, enthusiastic, emotional, extended, excellent, and educational in addition to electronic."

With students continuously being online and using various gadgets and apps; e-learning benefits immensely because of this. Reaching the students is no more limited to the traditional means; universities use all kinds of social media, apps and make their campus and courses digitally active.

They use technologies like multimedia, internet, and so, to impart knowledge to the students. Higher ed institutions try to create a virtual learning environment. This sort of teaching can be incorporated from the classroom to a student in another continent. It is broadly divided into two categories – Synchronous and Asynchronous.

Synchronous is when you have real time teaching i.e. the student and the teacher would be interacting at the same time and asynchronous is when pre-recorded lectures and notes are send via various media, and the student at their convenience can view it.

Why E-Learning is perfect

    1. No Age Barrier: One of the most important facts is the age barrier. Many people tend to forego college because of money or some other commitment, and eventually when they do have the money, they might not even consider education because of the age factor. This makes, e-learning very helpful. It is not that the schools or universities would not allow students of all age, but it is more about your own comfort.

    2. Employed or Not: You don’t want to give up your work, because of a degree! No worries, e-learning is perfect for you. You can learn and earn at the same time. The degrees and diplomas are equivalent to the one you get in the universities. So you don’t need to be afraid whether or not it is worth it. These sort of educational techniques are now spreading from the classroom to the online medium.

    3. Availability: You can get access to your course from anywhere at any time, all you need is a good internet connection. Even in classrooms, while learning through e-mediums a student can always make use of various apps and tools to record and learn.

    4. Choice: Nowadays e-learning is incorporated in various courses around the world, from high school diplomas to top most postgraduate degrees. Just browse through some of the education portals and learn more about the variety.

    5. Affordable: This costs less than what you would have to pay if you were enrolled as a regular student. Along with that, you also don’t have the additional expenses like travel, accommodation, etc. You can sit at your home/office and learn at the same time.

Many top-notch universities are opting to go 'e'. Not only they are getting more distance learning student enrolled but also the offering of programs are also being opted by the regular students as it becomes more convenient. Universities extending e-learning services are Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, University of Manchester, Edinburgh Naiper University, and others. To find more options all you need is to go online log onto one of the education portals, which would give you a wider list up to your requirement.

This transformation of education has definitely made it more viable, it is no more restricted to students with a certain bank balance, grade or any means beholding some want to be students. It is universally available to every single person who wants it. All you need to do is reach out and grab it.

This guest post was written by Trisha. She is a professional writer and adviser on education. She is an ardent reader, a traveler and a passionate photographer. She wants to explore the world and write about whatever comes across her way.

Learn the Importance of Proper E-Waste Disposal for Healthy Environment

By Elizabeth A. Halsted*
Recycle computers in an ecologically sound manner in West Texas - Photo by Hadley Paul Garland
In the 21st century, technology tools are widely used in classrooms by teachers and students. Today classes are equipped with digital devices that are teaching the student that is not possible with conventional techniques of learning. Whether you are studying at a college or university, innovative technologies boost your learning process. But it is essential for students to dispose their digital devices properly when it is no longer in use. If you are a student and use modern technologies, then you should learn the importance of disposing it. Read the information shared below to know how the perks that is associated with the disposal of digital devices.

Environment friendly activity

Many students dump their useless digital devices on the grounds and lakes which negatively impact the environment. When electronic equipment is dumped on the ground, it not only occupies a lot of space, but also affects the life of people. Electronic equipment produces toxins to degrade that is harmful to ground water. Recycling electronic waste not only saves a lot of space, but also protects the lives of people and different creations. We should prevent this type of environmental pollution by disposing the electronic waste in a proper manner. Never throw away electronic waste on ground or sea next time when you found any useless electronic device.

Keep it healthy

We all know that different types of chemicals are used for the development of electronic products. Harmful elements like lead are also used in the development of electronic devices like smart phones, notebooks, tablets, and other digital devices. When electronic equipment is not disposed properly, unhealthy chemicals are released from it. This affects the health of the people and other living things in a negative way. Therefore, we should place useless electronic devices in the recycling bin to protect ourselves and others from the damaging elements of digital devices.

Reused in many ways

Electronic equipment contains a lot of stuff that can be reused in many ways with little efforts. A recent study proved that many big brands like Microsoft, runs their own recycling plants to benefit from the reusable material. In this way, Microsoft doesn’t need to purchase recyclable parts again, which saves hundred thousands of dollars. Nowadays, all electronic manufacturers are using recyclable technology to save their production cost. This method not only benefits to manufacturers but also ease the environment by saving resources for future.

Good for economy

If everyone in the world makes sure to recycle electronic products properly, the business will not need to develop many components from the beginning. By controlling cost of electronic equipment it will be comparatively reduced and you will likely get the product by paying less. This way both the consumer and business will enjoy the convenience of the recycling process of useless electronic equipment. This activity will also help the economy as it will reduce the uses of natural resources in the production of electronic equipment.

By reading the benefits of proper recycling, students can learn the importance to preserve the environment, health, economy, and natural resources for future generation.

Five Helpful Educational Tools for Editing and Proofreading

By Amy Cowen*

There are people that are going to say that teachers do not need online tools and services to teach their students because they should be able to do it on their own, but the premise is faulty since we do not expect driving instructors to teach without a car or swimming instructors to teach without water. Here are some tools that a teacher can use to help his or her students improve their writing. The list is in no particular order as it has a nice spread of various services and tools that may be used.
Editing & Proofreading by Desi:The Italian Voice
1 - Guide to Grammar

You can complain about the quality of the website, because it is terrible, but you cannot complain about the quality of the information within. There is a lot of text on this website and some students may find it a little much, but the quality of the content is fantastic. A teacher could do worse than using the navigation tool and stealing a little content to apply to his or her lessons.

2 - After the deadline

Instead of students handing in essays after simply running the text through the word processor spelling and grammar checker, the teacher could encourage the students to run their text through this tool too. In an ideal world, the student would be able to check the text his or her self in order to catch all the mistakes, but that assumes that a student is fully versed in all the rules of written English. With this tool, they may catch a few extra errors that their current level of English didn't allow them to catch. Obviously, the students are the ones that have to judge if the suggestions given are relevant to their work (i.e. if they are actually errors), but if they do make mistakes then this is where the teacher may come in with correction notes after the essay is submitted.

3 - Grammar Girl

Trying to appeal to students by using a blog as a tool may seem a little too hip for a teacher, but Grammar Girl is well known enough to see that it is harmless learning that may help a student engage. The teacher could encourage the students to look over the Grammar Girl blog post archive and learn from some of its articles.

4 - Paper Rater

This is a handy tool because it allows the user to determine the level at which the paper will be checked. The user can select his or her own study level and have the text checked at that level. The suggested changes will therefore be more relevant to the student using the tool.

5 - Hemingway App

You have to download the desktop version, and it does look like a basic tool, but give it a chance because it has charms that others lack. You are going to appreciate what a piece of software thinks of your work. Sure, it is not a human and cannot judge fairly, but it gives you an insight into how other programs such as Google may view you work.

By William Ford*

Lisa for I/O Keynote. Foto: Max Braun

In the past, there was very less innovation and development made in the field of education as compared to the other fields. The reason behind it is that educationists usually go for the traditional, tried and tested methods. However, in the last few years, there has been an epic boom seen in this industry as well.

One of the great innovations made in this field is Google Glass. It has completely changed the perspective of education and learning, and it has helped out both the teachers and students to make education more fun and engaging. Given are some of the best ways to use Google Glass in education.

1. Connecting To An Interactive Environment. Google Glass is helping teachers and students to get connected to an interactive environment using its online tools. Teachers and students, both, can refer the subjects related to their studies in real-time. All you need to do is to speak to your Glass and you get what you seek.

2. Get Real-Time Instructions. Students can easily wear it while playing basketball, football, baseball, etc and get real-time instructions from their coach. Also, students can watch the recordings to know the movements of their body and head during the play. However – a word of advice – wearing Google Glass while playing sport might either hurt your eye or the wearable. Therefore, it is important that the Glass must be used with extreme caution under these circumstances.

3. Keep Record Of Documents. Google Glass allows you to keep record of your sharable documents that sometimes might need presentation on the go.

4. Make Your Class Trips Better. The augmented reality feature is helping students in making their class trips and historic tours better by letting them know the information they want to know about particular landmarks, ancient buildings, antiques, etc.

5. Interpretation Of QR Codes. Students should experiment different QR codes to know the information about specific on-campus locations. For example, they can easily get to know what classes are taught in which classrooms.

6. Create Visually Rich Presentations. Making visually rich projects and presentations are always a headache for students. However, with Google Glass, you can take relevant snaps and film videos with a wink which can be integrated to their projects and presentations using Google Drive.

7. Learn New Languages. Many students are fond of learning new languages but unable to do so due to their busy schedule. However, they can now learn as many languages as they want to learn using real-time language translation feature of Google Glass.

8. Generate Student Information System. With the facial recognition system what a teacher needs to do is to simply look at the student and can easily get access to all the information including academic details, attendance, non-academic performance. Therefore, teachers can now easily create class timings, students' reports and schedules on the go.

9. Record Lectures In Real-Time. Making important notes of lectures is always a time and energy consuming task and there are chances of missing important notes of lecture. However, with Google Glass, students can easily record lectures in real-time which can be saved on scribbling notes for future references.

11. Invite Prospective Students For Campus Tour. Traditionally, prospective students have to physically appear at campus to have a tour of the building where they would be studying for certain years. However, they are now can be invited to have a campus tour via live Hangout using wearing guide of Google Glass.

The 7 C's to Winning the All-Time Wished Scholarship

Next year about this time my boy will be getting in any higher education campus in the U.S. Don't need to mention names but all is about my son decisions, and how much money he can collect from scholarships.

Reading through an article by Elizabeth Hoytt on fastweb. com, I found this interesting note on how to approach to win a scholarship now that higher education has become more expensive than ever. One of the Cs states that if you are looking for this kind of opportunities, you should let everyone know about it.

So, for this matter, I hope some of you can help us, my son and I, to "gain experiences that scholarship providers will value."

The 7 Cs Hoytt mentions are summarized below:

1. Content - Look out for resources like books, testimonials of scholarship winners and websites.

2. Commitment - Never give up applying for scholarships funds – because then you are guaranteed to never win one. Take the time to apply to scholarships that may require more work.

3. Communicate - The one I was referring to. Get letters of recommendation to attach to your application from your teachers, mentors and guidance counselors.

4. Causes - Do volunteering working on issues you are really passionate about. Scholarship providers are more likely to notice.

5. Create - Develop a new thing that solves anything in the school or community. Leadership role is a plus on these applications.

6. Compliment - Do your own Senior Brag Sheet. Each achievement gives you an extra edge and will help distinguish you from the competition.

7. Curriculum - Try to take AP courses as much as you are able to. A mix of more and less challenging courses that will manage to get you a higher GPA.

If you know or are interested on getting scholarship funds, I will be a good partner in crime.

Is Integration of ICT in Education Beneficial or Not?

By John Kelly*

Now, the information and communication technology (ICT) occupy an important place in our everyday lives, which include our overall society as well as education. It is the fact that ICTs are increasingly integrated in educational institutes across the world. However, there are also two schools of thought: those who advocate the integration of ICT in the educational world and those who have the conflict view.

ICTs are now the necessary component of the educational world. On the daily basis, through the use of ICT students exchange millions of messages at the same time and opens endless web pages. Technology, whether Internet, software and hardware, email messaging, social media platforms, all have made considerable changes in the procedure of teaching and study. In some of the situations, both the students and teachers have completely left paper and pen and now they do not rely on these.
Benefits of ICT in Education World

There are more than enough benefits of integration of information and communication technology in the educational domain. In accordance with the Eurydice’s 2011 Key Data report, when students work in groups or teams, information technology assists prevent isolation, promote exchanges between them and build skills of critical thinking about their work.

In the light of Sylvia Press, the information and communication technology can definitely enhance the motivation of young people in high schools, colleges and universities. Indeed, the research workers at the Oxford University have concluded that the use of the notebook by students will enhance the level of their motivation. Most of the researchers, intellectuals and scholarly persons across the world agree that it is urgent to integrate new and innovative technologies in the world of teaching since traditional methods are no longer challenge the youth of the internet generation.

Disadvantages of ICT in Education World

On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages and limitations of the integration of ICT in the educational domain. In accordance with the arguments of David V. Zandvliet, teachers may face complications when they integrate new and advanced technologies in the education. Zandvliet refuses the integration of technology in the context of learning, as teachers are not all comfortable to use these state-of-the-art technologies. Moreover, in accordance with the UNESCO, the fast growing development of information technology can be one of the key obstacles to the Ministry of education, education managers and educational institutions who need to update more recent developments in this field on the daily basis.

As far as the cost is concerned, the costs of integration of state-of-the-art technologies in education, whether in terms of investment in the latest tools and equipments and in terms of training of teachers and logistical support, can be the biggest barriers to the integration of the latest and advanced technologies in the educational domain.

In short, information and communication technology can best facilitate teaching and learning as well as enhance the motivation level of students. For cons, the integration of these technologies may encounter some barriers, such as the lack of teachers’ knowledge and the costs that may be the most vital obstacles. In my view, if the educational institutions and the governmental authorities will focus properly on the integration of advanced ICTs in the schools and colleges, students will be definitely benefited.

Integration of Tablet Technology in the Educational Setting

By Elizabeth A. Halsted*

The current article is all about the advanced Tablet Computers. In the following paragraphs of this, early table technology will be discussed. The article will talk about ways in which this technology enhances the process of learning. The most important aspect of this article is its deployments in the schools, so the integration of tablet computers with the existing resources of ICT will be discussed in the end.

Tablet Computers in the Early Days

There are many forms of Tablet Computing, ranging from a personal digital assistant (PDA) also known as a palmtop computer and handheld devices (handheld computer) to touch screen laptops, Slates, Tablet PC's and newly introduced the ‘Post-PC’ Tablets. In the beginning, tablet computers were primarily forms of existing hardware and operating systems conforming to distinguish an additional input device, like a ‘pen’ or just a touchscreen. The Windows XP Tablet edition was released by Microsoft in early 2002 that support an advanced touchscreen laptop. A surface was developed by this that could be employed for direct input and frequently supported new functionality, like HWR (handwriting recognition). HWR is the capability of a computer to obtain and interpret comprehensible handwritten input from sources, like paper documents. Nevertheless, early tablet computers failed to gain acceptance worldwide, and conventional devices remained the first preference.

Tablets Enhance Learning

Learning should never be technology led. Teachers are for teaching and technology is for assisting. This statement is imperative, but often disregarded. People should focus on how the learning can be assisted by the technology. There are numerous advantages to students. The additional engagement is one of such circumstances in which students can bring content through touch interface. A clear benefit for education is there to be obtained from better engagement, comprising it enhances stimulation, decreases the working time, and develops and improves the level of knowledge.

Moreover, tablet technology has really transformed the concept of the use of information and communications technology (ICT), letting for further usage conditions and annexation in activities related to learning not formerly affiliated with ICT.

Use of Tablet Computers

An exceptional opportunity is provided by the tablets that gives people a portable experience of learning. Tablet computers offer such possibilities that traditional ‘mobile’ computers do not. This is lent by itself to better technology use within the domain of teaching. As an instance, it gives a fast access to reference data while learning that was quite impossible in the past through the use of ICT.

Tablets are now commonly used in less typical settings, like workshops, field trips or physical education lessons where people and students can conduct detailed research to accumulate authentic information with evidence and then present it later. Integrating such state-of-the-art devices into the classroom environment for students is a good way to gain learning experience. An advanced and sophisticated tablet computer has the complete capability of delivering, like text and reference books, Web research, preparation and review of the document, resources of audio and video, and particular applications related to e-learning. In fact, this is really multipurpose tool.

Integration of Tablet Computers with the Existing Resources of ICT

People should understand the ways in which tablet technologies integrate with the current ICT infrastructure. During the last few years, most of the schools have made considerable investment on the provisions of ICT and eLearning, so making sure the compatibility of the devices with these is crucial.

At present, tablet producers focus primarily the consumer space, an individual user is being owned with each device. Therefore, it's quite difficult to provide technologies for use by manifold students whose capabilities are different with each other. In the schools, typical integration of tablet technologies are not well established, therefore each individual device should be ‘shared’ that must be the focus of people. Complications are led by this issues while content, applications and resources are provided. Then, one of the most important deliberations is locating an approach to let multiple students to access individualised content on each shared device.

Tablet computers, in fact, have the capability to transform the means wherein the students deliver and consume the resources of eLearning. Its adaptability and versatility are matchless, and consequently deployments in schools are growing rapidly in large quantities. Nevertheless, the needs of teaching should be fulfilled by technology. It is crucial to make sure that integrating any advanced and innovative technology into the educational setting ameliorates the furnishing of ICT resources, meets the needs of teachers and students, and has plentiful advantages.

Video Conferencing in Education Is Beneficial

By Forges William*

Education is not for making the child to attend just the school and study the lessons regularly. Educating children involves forming and developing them both physically as well as mentally by providing awareness of the different issues, like narrations, visuals, explanations of immense people, videos, field trips, and other different things which the instructor employs instantaneously to clear their concept. Children observe the worldly matters entirely by their teachers’ eyes. In fact, the teacher acts as the classroom window for the children by which they can view the entire world.

However, the current article gives an understanding about the importance of video conferencing in the educational world.

Teacher and Education

Finding a teacher who has a strong knowledge base about the relevant subject and has the ability to make the study interesting is not an easy job. So, there are many situations when a teacher is determined his/her knowledge should be shared by the students. When online video conferencing is executed within the classroom boundary, the teacher need to teach only in one room and can respond the students’ queries remotely.

In fact, the technology of video conferencing in educational institutes effectively connects distant students to their teachers. If we talk about at the highest level, this approach also leads students on visual trips, brings distant experts on your desktop and lets children talk about their educational skills with their peers from other states, cities or countries. This technology for educational institutes can also develop an interest and passion for learning which the conventional methods of learning and teaching cannot.

In recent times, some of the departments related to education have commenced benefiting this advanced technology to assist the process of learning and teaching. The technological solutions of Video Conferencing can assist us by establishing great facilities, such as; it facilitates remote students with a group of resources and approach to highly educated teachers, librarians, content providers, etc.

Education in Distant Areas

The technology of video conferencing is a valuable and one of the more convenient tools for communication which can successfully make quality education possible even in distant areas. Video conferencing advancement, high pace progression in the broadband Internet technology and low-priced webcams which can simply be furnished even in theses areas can be employed to provide quality based education for students who are deprived of minimum education level. Some of the remote areas are also denied where establishing a proper infrastructure and networks can always be an issue, mostly in the underdeveloped countries. The video conferencing software works effectively on broadband Internet, smart mobile phones and wireless data card that lets remote students to attain the quality education.

Other benefits of Video Conferencing

Online video conferencing technology really contributes a vital part in facilitating with expert and professional recommendations to the students in their own particular subject. It is a fact that the subject experts/teachers cannot give enough time for each student group on a regular basis, in this situation online technology of video conferencing can be implemented in educational institutes. Through this approach, all the groups can easily partake simultaneously and the material, answers or knowledge provided by the teachers can be shared by every group member.

Besides these, most of the teachers are in favour to implement Educational Video conferencing online technology in their schools as a means of enhanced communication and teaching system.

The services of video conferencing technology can also be employed in upgrading the students/children in the day-after-day advancements in subjects like science, maths, IT, etc. Students’ accomplishments can also be presented and shared to their age groups at different schools to recognise where they stand, what more to reach and to target new objectives and set innovative thoughts shared from such remote students.

Writers: Are You Afraid of Being Judged?

Bestseller Labs:

You feel that you’re going to fail. It’s ironic, but the more you need your writing to be amazing, the less amazing it will be. The emotional defence shutters go up, and the mind moves into an intellectual, reasoning mode.

This is perfect if you’re an accountant, but the worst possible state for a writer. The solution is to deliberately remove all expectations. Cease planning to ever publish, and let your imagination run free to produce whatever it likes – even if it’s not very good. Who cares? You’re writing just for yourself. No-one will ever see.

This is amazingly freeing. But, you must write, and keep writing, not meditate or "take time out".

Understanding the UK Education System

By Forges William*

UK education standards are frequently debated. The future of higher education in the UK is intended to look very different than how it does now. In the United Kingdom, the education system is one of the most comprehensive ever. Being the leading superpower for a very long time in the world, the British education is superior and is adopted by several countries across the globe, comprising the Indian sub-continent countries.

Different Stages of Education

The different stages of education in the country are assorted in primary, secondary, tertiary and higher education. Students are anticipated to study their primary and secondary education, which is an about 5 to16 years.

There are four key steps of this particular system, which include the following:

  • 1st Stage of Education: The first stage of education is usually between 5-7 years,
  • 2nd Stage of Education: The second stage is between 7-11 years,
  • 3rd Stage of Education: The third stage is between 11-14 years, and
  • 4th Stage of Education: The fourth stage is between 14 and 16 years.
The primary schools support the first and second stage of education, while the other two stages are supported by secondary schools.

All the students are assessed by the teachers on the basis of their overall performance at the end of these steps. Both of the stages are most important in which assessment is carried out and then the student finishes high school. After this phase, a student the age of 16 years is allowed whether he/she continues education or starts professional job.

After completion of General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), students have few choices to prefer from which institute he/she would like to complete A-levels. A student from the UK is planning to take the program of higher education in a college or university to complete his studies further prior to his/her A levels, BTEC, GNVQs and other programs (most of them are known as vocational courses).

With more than a hundred universities that offer an extensive range of programs for UK as well as foreign students, the country gives immense opportunities for students when they complete their graduation. In the country, many programs or courses prolong as long as three years, while at the present time, alternating training that works as long as four years gaining attractiveness. Most of the professional degrees like doctor, law and veterinary consume at least five years to complete.

Entry Conditions

Each stage in the UK education system has the diverse entry requirements which must be met by a student to be qualified. The very initial entry requirement, chiefly in a case the student is a foreigner and English is his/her second language, is passing the tests of TOEFL or IELTS. Getting success in any one of these tests would be good enough for a foreign student.

Entry for the GCSE relies on the school a student preferred as he/she usually has to enrol in the school. The input level is highly reliant on the establishment condition you choose as private schools are all independent and also have different standards. There are some professional courses as well for entry requirements and a student requires strong English to pass such courses.

The input condition heavily relies on the University course or program. Most of the courses require a pass in A-levels while some universities require a degree qualification. A foreign student may enter a university devoid of going through the A or reach the British school system, however, they must have a specific number of credentials required by the university.

"University and College Admissions Services (UCAS)" is liable for all applications for universities and details on eligibility, date aperture, structures of the fee, the duration of the course and other information regarding each program offered.

ASU+GSV Summit: 16 Ways We Can Get Equal Access to Education

At ASU-GSV,the past week, Brett Baker shared that a small education team on Twitter has begun collecting stories about how educators are using the social network to see if there are ways Twitter can support educators more. Out of the 1/2 billion tweets that users post every day, 4.2 million are related to education. If you want to jump onto the train and you have a suggestion or story to share about using Twitter in your school, tweet to @bbaker and use the hashtag #twitteredu.

The ASU-GSV Summit, brought 2,000 entrepreneurs, investors and educators together at the Phoenician hotel, in Scottsdale, AZ. Betsy Corcoran on Edsurge wrap it up with a cheatsheet of what she heard and overheard at the Summit.

Since 76% of users have access to Twitter via smartphone, some educators are begining to realize the power of the social network in their classrooms. Take for example how one San Francisco history teacher uses Twitter in his classroom to teach World War I or how principal Steve Williams is changing the culture of Sunlake High School through Twitter.

According to Corcoran, Tom Vander Ark, founder of Getting Smart, was one of the top presenters at the Summit with an impressive 132 meetings, and moderated a panel on how to deliver equal access to education which we want to share here:

- States should fund universal access to pre-school (like Oklahoma where 70% of students attend public pre-k programs).
- States should encourage better competency-based preparation and development for preschool teachers.
- Expanding access to high quality early learning experiences (city or state sponsored access to resources including mobile applications).
- Enacting the ‘good school promise’ – accountability is key to ensuring that every family in every state has access to good neighborhood schools, like Julie Jackson is supporting in Newark, as Managing Director of Uncommon Schools , who is always thinking about ways to improve the school model and support services to increase college completion rates.
- Supporting improved middle grade STEM preparation to boost low income/minority participation in rigorous college preparatory courses and exposure to STEM careers so they can gain the interest and training.
- Proactive authorizing of contract & charter schools targeting underserved geographies and student groups. School districts and civic leaders should consider the transported options available to each zip code in an urban area.
- Expanding access to full and part time online learning, blended with good face to face experiences, as well according to Lynda Weinman, CEO of (See Online Learning: Myths, Reality & Promise).
- Weighted, portable, flexible funding (See Funding Options, Students, and Achievement) would pay for extended learning time and higher pay for teachers in high challenge schools.
- Regular demonstrations of learning on competency-based progressions will make it easier for students to learn in many ways in formal and informal settings. (See From Cohorts to Competency.)
- Universal access to college credit opportunities in high school, on college campuses, and online. Also, knowing about and tapping into financial support opportunities to keep students enrolled. Andrea Zapp, CEO of Chicago Urban League, described early college high schools sponsored Microsoft, Verizon, Motorola, IBM that provide the opportunity to gain an associates degree and a corporate job.
- Early college and career awareness, guidance and support services as John Katzman, founder and CEO of Noodle, believes the tools are out there but the key is to marry really good advice with really deep data to provide the kind of support students need to find the right path.
Post secondary
- Free or means-tested state support for Associate degree programs.
- State partnerships with inexpensive accelerated competency-based degree pathways (e.g., WGU)
Job training
- Means-tested state support for job-training programs (could target skill gap occupations) eg micro-credentialing (as described here).
Community. The explosion of free and open learning resources is a global asset but for low income families it can be a challenge getting online to access.
Expanding broadband access in community hotspots and access devices at libraries.
Lynda Weinman, founder of, would like to see a little less test-prep and broader access to joy-filled learning experiences inside and outside of school.
Now you now why Common Core has being exposed. Educators like to tweet!

Digital Education - 8 Ways To Use Google Plus In Classroom

By Vanessa Collister*
Digital Education
Google Plus is the second largest social networking site in social media sector. Google Plus provides uncountable services to users that may include hangouts, conferencing, sharing, commenting, and, of course, social networking. Students can utilize this magnificent digital space in numerous ways and make their classroom a fun podium to flourish their skills. Not only does it assist students with their studies but it also helps teachers interact with their disciples at a more digital level thereby allowing both the parties an effective learning and teaching experience, respectively. Let’s have a look at how we can use the endless benefits of Google Plus in the classroom and make the most out of this digital experience.

1. Hangouts

As the name implies, the features allows a free audio/video conference with a maximum capacity of 10 users at a time. Students can utilize this service for group studies as well as for receiving online lectures from their teachers. With the help of a number of apps inside the hangout, you can share documents, pictures, videos, presentations and assignments with other students and teachers as well.

2. Collaborative Study Discussions

Now the old era has gone when students had to wait at the bus stops to commute to their friend’s house to collaborate on a homework or college project. With the advent of G+, it has become fairly easy for students to communicate with each other or collaborate in numerous ways through chat, comments, audio-video conferencing calls and group discussions. Now students can spend their time on online group studies right from the comfort of their home.

3. Guest Speakers

With the help of Google +, teachers can arrange a weekly or monthly guest speaking session where prominent and influential speakers can share their insights with students. At the end of the session, teachers may encourage learners to give their feedback on the topic or ask questions regarding the lecture given by the guest speaker. Moreover, if you want to invite any famous public speaker to deliver a lecture at your place, you may find him on Google Plus under the search option.

4. Taking Test

This social network is the easiest way for teachers to conduct tests online of students getting distant education. Students also find it easier to take their test at home using the many features of Gplus. The online learning or distant learning through Google Plus is best for those students who are either disabled or socially introvert.

5. Conducting Interviews

Extending the above idea, it gets really feasible to conduct interviews using ‘hangouts’. International schools, colleges or universities can take online interview of potential students who are planning to study abroad. Consequently, it will save a great deal of time for the admission committee to assess foreign students.

6. Online Competitions & Quizzes

The best way that can be used by a teacher to polish up their students’ skills in a collaborative manner is through online competition and quizzes. There is an option in ‘hangout’ through which you can add documents on Google Plus. This option can further be used to conduct writing competitions by a teacher. Similarly, art instructors can use this application for organizing online art competitions.

7. Remote Coaching

If any of the teachers is unable to attend class because of some problem, he can take benefit from Google Plus many features without postponing lecture.

8. Parents-Teacher Conference

Parents who have a hectic job routine find it hard to make it to the parent-teacher conference to discuss the performance and status of their children. However with Google Plus, attending parents-teacher conferences will no longer be a problem anymore because Google Plus strives to bridge the gap of distant communication thereby allowing people to meet and converse online whenever they want.

Questions to Be Answered: Why the American Education Declines?

Kean University has a print edition of Kean Current. Looking through that edition I've found that two NJ teachers had been selected as Teacher of the Year in this state. Additionally, an important note from Kristi, one of Kean University's students.

After reading What Students Know and Can Do: Student Performance in Mathematics, Reading and Science a survey assessed by PISA, published in 2012, Kristi noted the United States is currently ranked 36th on a list that boasts the top 65 education systems worldwide. As a United States citizen with a bachelor’s degree, educated in the United States, she wrote, these statistics alarmed me, and impelled me to delve further into research on other United States rankings, primarily its economic ranking in relation to the 35 countries ahead of us in the education race.

Pay attention of what she found it about:

The United States, ranked 36th in terms of education, is also ranked 12th in the most recent Index of Economic Freedom. Why is this important? Well, economic freedom is a fundamental component of liberty. "It empowers people to work, produce, consume, own, trade, and invest according to their personal choices". I guess my next question is, why does a country, that is considered somewhat of a "super-power" in terms of economy, have such a low educational ranking in comparison? Korea, which is ranked 5th on the educational scale, although now divided into South and North, are ranked 31st and 178th (respectively) on the economic scale. Again, I will repeat, they are ranked 5th in world in terms of education.

Are we doing something wrong as a society? Have Americans become too complacent? Too lazy? Too comfortable? Does it stand to reason that the more financially stable a society is, the less they worry about the future and, subsequently, the further they fall behind while other more oppressed countries fight for a global voice? I’m unsure of the answer, but our educational decline almost feels as if we are slowly giving our voices away. Who is responsible for assuring that we do not lose the voices our predecessors fought so hard to obtain? Where is our sense of pride? Our drive? Our motivation? Our curiosity? Our persistence? And how do we get it back?
